The Cause

Our cause for this event is hunger relief. With record unemployment in America, and the collapse of the financial industries that provide much support to NY-based hunger relief organizations, we’re proud to announce we’ve partnered with City Harvest, the world's first and New York's only food rescue organization, to help the hungry of New York City.

Now serving New York City for over 25 years, City Harvest is the world’s first food rescue organization, dedicated to feeding the city’s hungry men, women and children. This year, City Harvest will collect 23 million pounds of excess food from all segments of the food industry, including restaurants, grocers, corporate cafeterias, manufacturers and farms. This food is then delivered free of charge to more than 600 community food programs throughout New York City using a fleet of trucks and bikes as well as volunteers on foot. Each week, City Harvest helps over 260,000 hungry New Yorkers find their next meal.

It costs City Havest 28 cents to rescue a pound of food. Let's see how many pounds of food we can rescue!

100% of the proceeds from your ticket will go to benefit City Harvest.

The Event

Gathering social media professionals, technologists, friends and family and otherwise talented people, Social Media for Social Change was born of the idea that the social media community, these “agents of change” can get together for one night, to support one cause.

In our second event in New York City, we hope to gather 200 to 300 guests together for a night of fundraising, network, entertainment and other fun.

Social Media for Social Change

It all started with a single blog post by founder Gradon Tripp in the middle of 2008, but now Social Media for Social Change (SM4SC) serves as an example of how social media can bring together people from all around the world together to change society in a big way. The premise of SM4SC is simple — to take all the connections made through social media, and put them together to host first-class fundraising events happen “in real life”. SM4SC’s fundraisers benefit local charities in cities around the United States.
